Angel Jewelry
No evil shall befall you, nor shall affliction come near your tent, for to His Angels God has
given command about you, that they guard you in all your ways.
Upon their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
Psalm 91: 10-12
The Catholic Church and many other religions teach that each and every person on this earth was given their own personal guardian angel to watch over them at the moment of their birth. There are many who claim to have seen or somehow felt the presence of their guardians. Over and over through time there have been occurrences which clearly indicate these beings truly exist.
Guardian angels have distinctive roles in our lives, to protect us from harm, especially the harm that comes from evil entities as well as to guide us toward good thoughts, words and deeds. Since the 17th century we honor these angels with a feast on October 12.
From Biblical times angels have occurred as executors of God's messages and his wrath. In Genesis 28-29, angels act as the executors of God's wrath against the cities of the plain. They deliver Lot from danger; in Exodus 12-13 an angel is leader of the host of Israel, and in 32:34, God says to Moses: "my angel shall go before thee." In Psalm 90:11: "For he hath given his angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways." (Cf. Psalm 33:8 and 34:5). In Daniel 10 angels are entrusted with the care of particular districts; one the "prince of the kingdom of the Persians". The Archangel Michael is termed "one of the chief princes"; Deuteronomy 32:8 (Septuagint); and Ecclesiastics 17:17 (Septuagint).
In the New Testament angels are seen much more often. When confronted with caring for children Jesus said, ""See that you despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 18:10). Angels accompanied Jesus throughout his life. At his birth they announced his arrival and were seen by the shepherds. When he was confronted by Satan in the desert angels gave him solace. When he prayed at Gethsemane knowing of his pending crucifixion angels comforted him. Angels rolled the rock away from Jesus tomb when he arose from the dead.
Angels appeared not only to Jesus. They appeared and spoke to both Mary and Joseph and to Mary's mother. Angels gave solace to John the Baptist and delivered St. Peter from prison and so on through history. Stories abound of ordinary people encountering or being aided by people they believe to be angels.
Today we give special homage to angels, thanking them for their protective role in our lives and/or invoking their aid by prayers, poems and sayings, statues and special writings, but especially in jewelry.
Angel jewelry is both common and popular and a source of wonderful gifts. Angel pieces come in countless forms.

Cherubs are extremely poplar forms of angel jewelry perhaps because of their resemblance to precocious little children or babies.
Actually, the cherub is identified as a supernatural entity mentioned several times in the Hebrew Bible and in the Book of Revelations of the New Testament. They are portrayed countless times in western art. They are described as acting as the chariot of Yahweh in Ezekiel's dream. Two cherubim guarded the Garden of Eden after the fall of mankind. Two sculpted cherubim were included as part of the 'mercy seat' on top of the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25: 18-21).
As to Cherubs position in ranking as God's angels, the Cherubim are second only to the Seraphim in the nine choirs or hierarchy of angels before God's throne. The Seraphim are those who attend or guard God's throne. The Cherubim symbolize God's power and mobility. Tradition describes them as having intimate knowledge of God as they praise Him continually.
