Prayer to All Angels
All you holy angels and archangels, thrones and dominations,
principalities and powers, the virtues of Heaven,
cherubim and seraphim, praise the Lord forever. Amen.
There are nine choirs of angels who sit before the throne of God. They are the Seraphim, Cheribim, Thrones, Dominions, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Archangels and Regular Angels.
The Seraphim are of the highest order of angels. They are the direct attendants and guardians of God's throne. Seraphim are said to have six wings, two cover their faces, two cover their feet and two for flying.
Cherubim rank just after the seraphim so are second highest in the nine hierarchies. They are manlike in appearance and have double wings. According to the Old Testament, Cherubim are the guardians of God's glory The Catholic Tradition describes them as beings who have intimate knowledge of God and continually lend Him praise.
What better way to praise the Seraphim and Cherubim but with cherub pin or angel lapel pin?
The Thrones are Angels of pure Humility, Peace and Submission. They reside in the cosmos where material form just begins. The lower Choirs of angels need Thrones to obtain access to God.
Dominions are Angels of Leadership. They regulate the duties of the other angels.
Virtues govern all nature. Known as the Spirits of Motion, Virtues control the elements. That is, the seasons, stars, moon, even the sun. They are in charge of miracles and provide courage, grace and valor to humans.
The Powers are the Warrior Angels. They defend the cosmos and humans against all evil.
Angels are believed to be happy spirits. They want to spread their happiness in showing their love for God. This dancing angel pin reflects that desire.
Archangels are the leaders or chiefs of the Army of God. Michael is said to be the Chief Commander with Raphael and Gabriel on either of his sides. The Bible speaks most frequently about these three leaders of all the other angels. St. Michael has been invoked as patron and protector of the Church since the time of the Apostles. He is seen throughout both the new and old Testament and is described as the 'Chief of Princes'. He is the leader of the Heavenly forces in their triumph over Satan and his followers. There are seven archangels in all: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Seatiel, Jugudiel, Barachiel. Sometimes an eighth, Jeremiel is also counted.
A Prayer to Saint Michael
Saint Michael, Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
The prayer to St. Michael was written in 1886 after Pope Leo XIII
received a terrible vision of Satan reigning for 100 years. He ordered the
Prayer to St. Michael be said after every low Mass. The custom was
suppressed in 1964 but was revised again in recent years by Pope
John Paul IV. The prayer usually follows a public recital of the Rosary.
The Principalities are pictured wearing a crown and a scepter. Their duty is actually to carry out the orders given them by the Dominions and Arch Angels. It is said the Principalities inspire humans into many things such as art and science.
Some may be confused that the Principalities represent those angels who followed Satan. While those who followed Satan may be angels originally from the choir known as principalities those who followed Satan are no longer considered angels. Now they are 'demons' and are no part of the Nine Choirs of Angels who service God and protect mankind. In fact, demons are the arch enemies of all who worship God.
The final choir of angels known simply as 'Angels' are those closest to mankind and the ones humans readily recognize They deliver our prayers to God and bring His answers to us. Angels have the ability to access each other at all times. Therefore, it is possible for an Army of angels to come to the aid of a single human being at a moment's notice. Angels are the most caring and solicitous to those who ask them for help. However, countless documentations and stories exist of times when angels came to the aid of humans without that human being aware or their presence or not readily recognizing they were being assisted by an angel.
